£10,000. That was the target! – Ashley Wang
This year, the MDs of the Capital Markets Group set us, a team of five mere analysts, the challenge of concocting this amount of money from somewhere (anywhere) to beat their fundraising efforts the previous year. The easy part, of course, would be running the annual 5km run around Hyde Park, an event held to raise money for Little Havens’ Children’s Hospice. Oh, and of course we would be donning our gorilla onesies in a bid to win the coveted prize for best fancy dress (unfortunately, we didn’t).
Having done a placement and summer internship at other large institutions, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has always been a familiar concept – helping local charities and communities through volunteering and various other activities. However, at MUFG, I could see that CSR was more than an HR-driven initiative. The friendly competition encouraged by senior management really made a difference. We ended up raising over £5,000, and technically, with those funds matched by MUFG, we were able to not only set the bar high for next year’s CMG team, but also show our support for such a great cause.
